Signs Your Newborn May Need Medical Attention
A newborn baby will bring much joy and excitement into your home along with many questions and concerns. We provide the following information that will help you manage your baby’s care and help put your mind at ease.
Temp is 100.4 degrees or higher.
A fever indicating your newborn may need immediate medical attention.
Urine and stool output is less than expected
Low urine and stool output may indicate dehydration or illness.
Your baby does not want to eat
Baby refusing food may indicate illness, dehydration, discomfort, or trouble.
Suddenly more sleepy or fussy than usual
Sudden extra sleepiness or fussiness could signal discomfort or illness.
The following are normal during early infancy
During the first few months, infants undergo rapid growth and development. It is normal for babies to:
- Pimples, dry skin and mild rashes
- Lumps under a baby’s nipple
- Rusty red discoloration in the urine
- Crying for diaper change, feeding, or warmth
